Named after a tree common to this region of Asia, Kapok is a little oasis in the middle of urban Hong Kong. Its French founder Arnault Castell wants to have a place that showcases his treasures from frequent shopping trips abroad. He likes to surprise people with distinctive products. Kapok’s brands may be less well known but they are interesting “finds”. For example, Arnault is the official distributor of Moleskine, a luxury Italian collection of notebooks that were the favourite doodle pad of Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Picasso. There is also a selection of home products from Italy, Switzerland and France, such as candles made by Mizensir, a Geneva perfume maker with one of the best “noses” in the industry. Alongside the European brands, there stands the creative flair of Hong Kong and Taiwanese designers. Many who aspire Kapok have asked Arnault to display their own original designs—clothing, jewellery and small furniture items. Together they showcase the creativity of homegrown talents. For anyone wanting to lift his spirits or give a little gift of happiness, Kapok is the place to find the right stuff.
