Starstreet introduces an inspiring showcase of 65 Dutch clogs
Cross-cultural designs created by famous local and Mainland artists for charity

Much more than a reflection of cherished traditions, fashion can also be a stylish ambassador for international cultural exchange. In May, Starstreet Precinct is pleased to exhibit an auction preview that is dedicated to the Dutch tradition of Klompen (Dutch clogs). This exclusive event will bring together one-of-a-kind clogs reinvented by many of the top artists in Hong Kong and the Mainland to generate donation for educational purpose.    

Supported by The Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the KLOMP! Auction Preview Exhibition will take place at Starstreet from 12 to 29 May 2009. This unique exhibition provides an opportunity for the public to view up to 65 traditional Dutch clogs, each featuring the original creativity of famous artists, illustrators and designers including Stanley Wong, Douglas Young and Barney Cheng. 

Made from wood, Dutch clogs are an iconic component of the Netherlands’ dress. The clogs are very simple in the past but they can potentially become eye-catching fashion statements! In this showcase, each pair of the clogs is individually designed. It encourages cross-cultural artistic expression and blends modern art with Dutch tradition.

KLOMP! is a cross cultural design-for-charity event which requires supports from members of the public. All the clogs displayed are now available for online auction, please come to Starstreet to view these wonderful creations and submit your bids at  www.klomp-event.com. All auction proceeds will go to Oxfam Hong Kong’s “Teach the Teacher” educational project in China’s Gansu and Qinghai provinces.
